Articulation

What is Articulation?

Articulation is the process of physically producing speech sounds to form words. It involves the movement of the tongue, lips, jaw, and vocal cords working together to create clear and accurate sounds.

What Are Articulation Disorders?

A child with an articulation disorder may have difficulty pronouncing certain sounds correctly. This can result in speech that is unclear or hard to understand. For example, they might say “wabbit” instead of “rabbit” or leave off sounds altogether.

Why It Matters:

When a child struggles with articulation, it can impact more than just how they sound. It may affect:

  • Social development, making it harder to communicate with peers and build friendships

  • Academic skills, including reading, spelling, and writing

  • Self-confidence, especially if they are frequently misunderstood
